As chair of the JCC Camps at Medford Committee, he supported the incredible growth and success of the largest Jewish day camp in North America. In 2025, Jeff continued his commitment to family engagement by sponsoring a brand new Firetruck addition to the Sari Isdaner Early Childhood Center outdoor playground. In recognition of his leadership, fundraising, and commitment to service within the JCC Community, he received the JCC’s Alan Klein Next Generation New Leaders Award.
Jeff has also been active with the Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey since 2008, serving on its Board of Directors, as Vice President, on the Federation Executive Committee, and on the Finance, Funds Development, and Budget and Allocations Committees. Amanda Halliwell currently serves as Assistant Director and Fitness and Wellness Director at the Katz Jewish Community Center, having dedicated over 28 years to the organization and the community it serves.
Originally from the United Kingdom, Amanda immigrated to the United States in 1986, settling in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Lampeter-Strasburg High School in 1991 and went on to study Elementary and Physical Education at Lancaster Bible College. A passionate and accomplished athlete, Amanda was a three-sport collegiate athlete—captaining the Women’s Volleyball Team as an outside hitter, playing shortstop for the softball team, and serving as a defensive specialist for the basketball team.
Amanda began her career with the Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey in 1997 at the original JCC location in Pennsauken, NJ. Starting as a lifeguard and water safety instructor, she quickly advanced to Assistant Aquatics Director, managing swim instruction, lifeguard staffing, the outdoor pool, and co-coaching the JCC Sharks Swim Team. Later that same year, she was promoted to Aquatics Director, a role she held for several years.
Her leadership journey continued as Assistant Fitness and Wellness Director under Rob Kiewe, where she expanded her focus to include sports, recreation, and fitness operations even while maintaining oversight of aquatics. She also played a key role as a delegation head for the South Jersey team, supporting youth participating in JCC Maccabi Games across the country.
In 2016, Amanda transitioned to membership services, serving as Membership Director and later overseeing both Membership and Fitness and Wellness. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she was instrumental in helping the JCC navigate restrictions and adapt operations to safely serve the community.
Today, Amanda serves as both Assistant Director of the Katz JCC and Fitness and Wellness Director. Her nearly three-decade tenure reflects a deep commitment to community engagement, wellness, and leadership. Amanda proudly considers the JCC her second home.
Darby Chhabria is resourceful; it’s one of her finest qualities. And understanding that the JCC is welcoming and warm….literally warm…she understood from a very early age that The J and its basketball courts provided a warm and dry option for her energetic self to play, when
cold and wet weather limited her options during the often very long winters in NJ. So, she became a mainstay at the JCC starting very young….in the junior leagues playing on her own teams and with anyone else’s teams who needed help.
She would literally stay all day if she could. When basketball took her away from playing in the JCC Leagues, she found her way back as a fan, a coach and referee as often and at every opportunity that her schedule would allow. She became and has remained a familiar face in the leagues and the camps throughout the years. Her favorite part being the connection she has formed with all of the little girls who have come through the programs and camps, eager to learn and play with her. Although if she’s being honest, many of them prefer to sit on her lap or do her hair, and that’s ok too….there’s plenty of time for her to teach them the fadeaway.
Darby has played in 2 Junior Maccabi Midlantic Games and 4 National Maccabi Games winning 1 Gold, 2 Silvers and 1 Bronze medal along the way. She was selected for the National U18 US Maccabi Basketball team that would have played in Israel this past summer, had the games not been cancelled.
A 3-sport standout at Cherry Hill East- she captained the soccer, basketball and lacrosse teams. She was a 2-time 1st Team Basketball All Olympic Conference Selection. She is just the 11th girl in Cherry Hill East school history to score 1000 points, and the only player in Olympic Conference history to register at least 1000 points and 500 rebounds. She was the 2025 female Athlete of the Year at Cherry Hill East. She played for 4 years for the nationally recognized Philadelphia Belles AAU program.
A product of Kellman Brown Academy from pre-school through 4th grade, Darby has been a lifelong member of Congregation Beth El where she was Bat Mitzvahed in 2020.
Currently, Darby is a freshman at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine where she is studying Government & Legal Studies and she will play for the Division 3 national powerhouse women’s basketball team.
